  • INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE FIRM CONTRIBUTES TO LOCAL EFFORT TO PRESERVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY

Songy Partners donates $15,000 to Fort Myers Black History Society

WHO: Songy Partners LLC, an international commercial real estate firm with regional offices in Fort Myers, Fla., presented a $15,000 check to Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey to support the Black History Society and the historic Williams Academy. Robert Brooks, Regional Director for Songy Partners presented the check to Mayor Humphrey. Songy Partners is developing Forum Corporate Park, a 42-acre, class-A office park situated within the 700-acre mixed-use development, The Forum at Fort Myers, located along I-75 between SR-82 and Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers, Florida. Forum Corporate Park will include a professional office campus consisting of seven class-A, multi-tenant office buildings with a select few build-to-suit sites available for sale to end users.

WHAT: The news conference and check presentation took place at 2 pm on November 5 at the Williams Academy. Later that evening, Mayor Humphrey again recognized Robert Brooks at the televised City Council meeting at the City Hall.

“On behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Fort Myers, I greatly appreciate Songy Partners for their generous contribution to the quality of life in our community. These funds will be designated for documenting the importance of the historic Williams Academy in our great city,” said Humphrey.

DETAILS: The contribution will help to create a video that describes the historical African-American impact that exists in Fort Myers, Fla., and Lee County. The video will be shown on the local government channel and at the newly restored Williams Academy, which has been converted into a Black History Museum.

The Williams Academy was built in 1913 as the first government funded Lee County School for African-Americans. The school was named in honor of professor J.W. Williams, who moved to Fort Myers previous to the schools opening, exclusively to teach there. In 1995, Lee County retained an architect and historian to convert the Williams Academy to a Black History Museum.
